AI Policy

I believe people have a right to know if generative AI has been used in content they consume, and to avoid AI content if they choose. In the interest of putting my money where my mouth is, here’s what you can expect from me and my work.

My books are and have always been written solely by me. I do not use generative AI for writing, plotting, idea generation, or character development. Everything you read in my books is baked from scratch. Sorry in advance, and the therapy is ongoing.

I also do not use generative AI for substantial editing. I do use Grammarly to catch typos and grammatical errors (that said, with the ghosts of Sister Mary and my Gammy Helen constantly hovering over me, there aren’t many of those).

I do not use generative AI to create images for book covers or promotional graphics. I create my visual content on Canva using stock images.

I do not use generative AI to write long-form content such as newsletters, articles, or blog posts.

I do use AI tools in limited areas of my author business. At the moment, those include…

…Some short-form content, such as social media captions.

…Collaborative editing of book blurbs and back cover copy, originally written by me.

…Metadata/positioning on ebook distribution platforms.

…Book launch planning.

…Social media strategy.

I don’t believe we can currently predict the longterm effects of this technology. I’m committed to remaining measured and transparent in how I use these tools, and to giving readers the appropriate information to make informed decisions about my work.
